From Image to Impact
A single ultrasound scan can change a life. This year it will change many more.
Following Easter, Rainbow for Africa UK returns to Kenya with a renewed commitment delivering POCUS training schools and launching a new collaborative project with the Rotary Club Mid Wirral.
Each POCUS school and trained healthcare worker brings faster diagnoses, better outcomes, and lasting change to communities that need it most.

A New Chapter in POCUS
Advancing care with Rotary Club Mid Wirral
Rainbow For Africa UK, in partnership with Rotary Club Mid Wirral, is launching a transformative project to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths in Kakamega and neighbouring counties in Western Kenya.
Establishing a state-of-the art ultrasound simulation lab at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) to provide advanced prenatal ultrasound training to midwives, nurses, and clinical officers after their initial POCUS workshops.
Using ScanTrainer Simulator devices, trainees will gain up to 25 hours extra hands-on experience. The addition of online learning, tutor support, and an automated booking system will further extend the project's reach and impact.
This collaboration combines Rotary's fundraising and Rainbow for Africa UK's maternal health expertise to empower local health workers, ensuring safer pregnancies, healthier babies, and stronger communities.
In summary the project aims to accomplish the following:
- Establish a modern ultrasound simulation lab at MMUST.
- Deliver intensive training to health workers (midwives, nurses, and clinical officers) using ScanTrainer ultrasound simulators.
- Train trainees according to an internationally recognised and standardised programme.
- Provide online learning, tutors, and a booking system.
