Behind every tiny heartbeat we heard was the compassion of people like you
At Christmas, we're reminded how powerful it is when people come together to care for one another. At Rainbow for Africa UK, your generosity brings hope and light to those who need it most. This Christmas issue celebrates the impact you make and how even the smallest act of kindness can change lives.

Showcasing collaborations that amplify our impact.

Lamu County Partnership
R4AUK and R4A Kenya team recently undertook an exploratory mission with Lamu County officials to assess opportunities for strengthening healthcare delivery across the archipelago through point of care ultrasound (POCUS). During the visit, the team met with key county stakeholders, including Dr Abdulkadir, Medical Superintendent at Lamu Hospital, and Dr Mbarak, Deputy Governor of Lamu County. These engagements focused on understanding existing clinical services, referral pathways, and the diagnostic challenges encountered in delivering care across geographically dispersed island communities.

Expanding POCUS Training Partnership
Malawi Outreach
Rainbow for Africa (Italy and UK) recently delivered a coordinated programme of training and clinical support in southern Malawi, working to strengthen point-of-need healthcare. Invited by “Solidali per il Malawi “ ODV, an Italian charity collaborating with local government services, the team worked at Madalitso Paediatric Health Centre in Monkey Bay. Interactive workshops requested by clinical staff focused on burns management, paediatric emergencies, and the use of foetal Doppler ultrasound. In parallel, 74 mothers were screened for schistosomiasis (a parasitic disease causing chronic urinary problems and endemic in the area), with treatment provided when indicated.

The programme continued in nearby Nkhudzi Bay through collaboration with the UK charity Village Foundations, extending care beyond the clinic setting and into the community. In the local Health Centre and remotely under the shade of a giant tree, screening and treatment were offered for schistosomiasis, hypertension, and diabetes, addressing both infectious and non-communicable diseases. These outreach clinics were supported by the Village Foundations team led by Zoe, an English district nurse volunteer, who has lived and worked in the area for over a decade. Her long term presence has fostered strong relationships of trust and ensures continuity of care, including follow up and support for access to long term medications. Together, these linked projects combined training, equipment donation, and community based care to reinforce sustainable healthcare delivery in the Warm Heart of Africa.

Behind the Probe:
Noah Omondi
A trainee’s perspective on learning
POCUS and its impact on patient care.
My name is Noah Omondi, a nurse sonographer at Sio Port sub county hospital since 2019. I received on the job Obstetric Point Of Care UltraSound (POCUS) training from Rainbow For Africa UK, successfully completing the course. This allowed me to start performing Obstetric scans at my hospital which has made a great impact to the community.
The introduction of POCUS at Sio Port hospital has improved early diagnosis of pregnancy complications, better antenatal monitoring, increased ANC (ANtenatal Care) attendance, and contributed to reducing maternal and neonatal deaths. With the portable ultrasound device, families now save time and money as they no longer need to travel to distant facilities for scans, making healthcare more accessible especially for low-income households.

I am grateful to Rainbow For Africa UK for equipping me with these skills. Today, I am a POCUS champion in Busia County and actively train others as a TOT (Training of Trainers). I am proud to be a product of Rainbow For Africa UK.
