Transforming Healthcare, One Step at a Time

Kenya Project
Much of our work in recent years has been focused on the healthcare system in Kenya. By supporting clinical staff to deliver care and train local teams in underserved areas, we aim to meet urgent needs while building lasting sustainable capacity.
2024 Highlights
Aside from the long term work of clinical and coaching support for community volunteers and local partners operating in low resource settings, in 2024 R4A UK led a partnership involving R4A Kenya, R4A Italy, and Masinde Muliro University Kakamega, to establish a Point of Care UltraSound (POCUS) School in Western Kenya. This was a THET (Tropical Health & Education Trust) financed project aiming at training healthcare workers in ultrasound to improve neonatal and maternal outcomes.

In October 2024 and December 2024 the first two R4AUK Point of Care Ultrasound workshops were delivered in Kakamega training 40 clinicians from the counties of Busia, Kakamega, and Vihiga. The next workshop in early July 2025 will be attended also by clinicians from other counties that have lined up to join the program.

Healthcare Infrastructure Support
We kicked of the year with the donation of an ultrasound machine to Matayos sub-county hospital. We are continuing support and evaluation visits across Kakamega, Busia, and Vihiga counties to strengthen our collaborations and guide future strategies. New counties are set to join this year.
Looking Ahead
Mentorship & Workforce Support
Building on the success of our 2024 pilot program, we plan to expand our mentorship scheme for clinicians who have participated in the workshops by establishing, with Masinde Muliro University School of Medicine, regular remote personal development learning sessions. These monthly meetings will improve clinical confidence, skill retention, technology utilisation, and resilience in the growing community of Rainbow for Africa Kenya clinical volunteers.
Technology Donations & Utilisation Support
In 2025, we’re committed to expanding our support through donation of life-saving equipment such as ultrasound scanners and monitoring devices to remote health facilities in Kenya. We also assist frontline healthcare workers with upkeeping of donated technology, promoting engagement, and active utilisation to server communities effectively.
Thanks to your donations, we’ve already supported dozens of clinicians. This year, we aim to reach even more through targeted support and mentorship.
Support our Fundraiser!

Some of our UK Volunteers took part in the Essar Chester Half Marathon on May 18th, 2025, to raise crucial funds for our 2025 healthcare projects in Kenya! This inspiring effort led to donations in excess of £3,000. The runners and the rest of the R4A team thank all who donated to this great cause!
